VAR: THE DRAMA OF VIDEO REVIEW When the referee signals VAR by drawing a square in the air, the stadium and sports bar go silent, waiting for the replay verdict. VAR can overturn goals, penalties, and red cards—expect tension and huge reactions when the decision is announced.

THE HIGH PRESS: TACTICAL INTENSITY Teams like the USA and Mexico use the high press to win the ball back quickly and energize the crowd early. Watch for defenders and midfielders swarming opponents, forcing mistakes and creating scoring chances.

BRACE & HAT TRICKS: GOAL SCORING FEATS A brace is when a player scores two goals in a match; a hat trick is three goals—both are celebrated with huge cheers.

NUTMEG: THE ULTIMATE SKILL MOVE When a player kicks the ball through a defender’s legs, it’s called a nutmeg—expect a loud “Ooh!” from the crowd.
